Extending the Body into Intelligent Technologies. An Evolutionary Approach

Friday 04 September 2020
Schedule 18:00-19:30

Online
Auditorium del Museo Revoltella - Via Armando Diaz 27, Trieste

Description

Spiders extend their body and mind by building cobwebs. In the human case, the connection between our body and the objects we use has become part of our evolutionary mechanisms. In Homo sapiens, the ability to delegate cognitive functions has been strengthened following the expansion of the brain areas involved in the coordination between brain, body, instruments and the environment. By exporting the cognitive process into extracorporeal elements, we transfer physical, sensory, memory and computational functions. Today, this is increasingly taking place with the help of digital agents. Discovering the constraints and the potential of our relationships with intelligent technologies allows us to better manage these networks, and reduce the risk of getting caught up in them.

Conference organised by prof. Claudio Tuniz and prof. Emiliano Bruner, with the support of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste and with Prof. Claudio Tuniz (ICTP), prof. Emiliano Bruner (Centro Nacional de Investigación sobre la Evolución Humana) and prof. Barbara Pernici (Politecnico di Milano) as speakers. The conference will be moderated by the journalist Massimo Sideri (Corriere della Sera).
